In an era defined by rapid change, uncertainty, and unprecedented connectivity, the youth of today—Gen Z and the rising Gen Alpha—stand at a crossroads. They face a world where opportunities are vast but also where challenges like climate change, misinformation and polarization threaten the stability of our shared future. Through my journey across schools, communities and policy forums under Project Global Unity 2035, I have seen the transformative power of Global Citizenship Education (GCED), championed by UNESCO APCEIU. This approach is more than just an academic subject; it’s a compass that equips young people with the skills, values and vision to not only succeed in their careers but also to safeguard the planet for generations to come. GCED as a Pathway to Purposeful Careers For Gen Z, a career is not just about a paycheck—it’s about purpose. GCED opens doors to professions that blend livelihood with positive impact. Hiroshima: A Wound That Still Bleeds — And Why Global Citizenship Education Is the Hope We Must Hold On To By Dr. Shishir K. Srivastava Founder, Global Unity 2035 “Since wars begin in the minds of men, it is in the minds of men that the defenses of peace must be constructed.”  — Preamble to the Constitution of UNESCO 06 August 1945: A Date That Changed Humanity Today, we pause to remember one of the darkest chapters in human history. On 6 August 1945 , at 8:15 AM, the city of Hiroshima was reduced to ashes in an instant. A single atomic bomb claimed over 140,000 lives—men, women, and innocent children—many vaporized without a trace, others left to suffer for years in unimaginable agony. The mushroom cloud over Hiroshima was not just a scientific breakthrough; it was a moral failure of humanity . It serves as a chilling reminder that technological progress without ethical consciousness can lead not to evolution, but to annihilation. Why We Still Talk About Hiroshima Even 80 years...

In today’s world—marked by rising nationalism, cultural intolerance, and the erosion of shared values—the Republic of Korea stands as a beacon of hope through its global advocacy for Global Citizenship Education (GCED) . This is not merely a policy or a curriculum model—it’s a bold, values-driven commitment to shaping the next generation of peace-builders and changemakers. A major force behind this commitment is the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Centre of Education for International Understanding (APCEIU) , headquartered in South Korea. Established to promote peace, human rights and sustainable development through education, APCEIU plays a pivotal role in advancing GCED across the region and beyond. It equips educators with training, teaching resources, and global platforms to exchange best practices—ensuring that GCED moves from theory to meaningful classroom action. South Korea’s leadership in this field is not coincidental. The country’s own journey—from division and conflict to democracy an...
