Give Peace a Chance: A Call to Israel, Iran, and the World By Dr. Shishir Srivastava

As the world watches the worsening conflict between Israel and Iran, my heart weeps for humanity. What began as a regional confrontation has now dangerously spiraled toward a nuclear nightmare—with missile strikes, civilian deaths and the specter of environmental collapse hanging over us all.

From Bushehr to Beersheba, from Gaza to Tel Aviv—innocent lives are being shattered, families torn apart and futures put at risk.

And for what?

A War Nobody Wins

This is not just Israel’s or Iran’s war anymore. It is fast becoming a threat to global peace, a ticking time bomb that could explode across the Middle East and send shockwaves through every continent.

·       Russia has warned of a “Chernobyl-style catastrophe” if nuclear plants are attacked.

·       The UK, India and others are evacuating citizens.

·       The UN has called the treatment of civilians “appalling.”

·       Global diplomacy is gasping for breath as missiles fly and rhetoric hardens.

A Personal Plea for Peace

As a peace educator and global citizen, I feel a moral duty to speak out—on behalf of children who deserve a future, on behalf of mothers crying for safety, on behalf of the Earth, which cannot take another war-driven wound.

To the leaders of Israel and Iran, I say this:

Give peace a chance. Step back from the brink. A nuclear disaster will not recognize borders, religion or politics. It will destroy us all.

Let the haunting words of Gandhi echo in our hearts:

"An eye for an eye will leave the whole world blind."

A Call to the World

I urge all G7 and G20 leaders, as well as the UN and regional powers, to rise in moral courage and act. Not with weapons, but with wisdom. Not with division, but with diplomacy.

Unite in Action to enforce a ceasefire, broker peace, and bring the warring nations to the table—not to plan more destruction, but to build bridges of understanding.

What Can Still Be Done

·       Convene an emergency Global Peace Summit with neutral mediators.

·       Launch multi-faith humanitarian campaigns to support victims on all sides.

·       Set up environmental watchdogs to safeguard nuclear infrastructure.

·       Strengthen backchannel diplomacy through nations like India, Switzerland, Oman, and Russia.

Let’s Not Damage Anymore

The war has already taken hundreds of lives and wounded thousands. The pain cannot be undone—but let us not inflict more.

Let’s choose peace from this moment on.

To every citizen reading this—your voice matters. Call for peace. Share this message. Be the ripple that becomes a wave.

Let the children of Israel and Iran grow up under skies of hope, not fire.

With hope,
